Using the Toolbar

Options for Interacting with the Map

  1. The Toolbar enables you to interact with the map with the following tools:

    Name Icon Description
    Zoom in Zoom in tool Click and drag a rectangle: Click and hold the left mouse button down on the map at one corner of the rectangle to zoom in to. Drag the mouse to the other corner of the rectangle, and release the mouse button. The map will zoom in to the area of the rectangle.
    Zoom out Zoom out tool Click and drag a rectangle: the map will zoom out so that the current map area will fit into the rectangle drawn. The smaller the rectangle you draw, the more the map will zoom out.
    Full Extent Full extent tool Full Extent: This tool will take you back to the original map view.
    Search Search tool Search: Search for parcels by entering a parcel id, last name, mailing address or street address.
    Pan (recenter) Pan tool Click and drag the map: Click and hold the left mouse button on the map, and drag the map. The map will be recentered, with the location dragged at the location you dropped it.
    Previous extent Zoom to previous extent Previous extent: The map returns to the area displayed previously. Similar to the browser's Back button, but specifically for the map.
    Forward extent Zoom to next extent Forward extent: The map displays the next extent in the list of stored map extents. This is only available after the Previous Extent button has been clicked.
    Identify Identify Identify: Allows you to find information about the different features in the map. More info...
    Draw Buffer Draw Buffer Draw Buffer (Restoration Viewer): Allows you to buffer a point, line or shape to select parcels. More info...
    Clear Selection Clear Selection Clear Selection (Restoration Viewer): Click to clear the selected features on the map.
    Measure Distance Measure Distance Print: Click the map to measure distance.
    Measure Area Measure Area Measure Area: Click the map to measure area.
    Bird's Eye View Bird's Eye View Bird's Eye View: Connect to Bing Maps to see oblique imagery. Not all areas have this information available.
    Google Streetview Help Google Streetview: Where available, this tool will show streetview where selected by the mosue.
    Geocoding Search Help Geocoding Search: Search for street addresses and landmarks.
    Drawing Tools Sketch Tools Drawing Tools: Tools to markup or redlining the map. Sketches can be printed, but not saved. More info...
    Print Print Print: Click to create a printable PDF map of the current extent. More info...

Using the Identify Tool

  1. In the Toolbar, click the Identify icon . The Identify tool only works on layers visible in the map.
  2. Once the Identify tool is selected, the mouse cursor will show the identify icon in the map.



    When you click the map, information on all the identifiable features will be displayed in a popup balloon.

Printing

  1. If you would like to print your current map display, click the Print icon . The Print tool creates a printable PDF of your current map.
  2. Before clicking the Print icon, select one an appropriate background layer. Because of license restrictions, the Google layers cannot be printed.



  3. After clicking the Print icon, the Print dialog appears in the table of contents. You have the option to add a title and set the quality of the print job (higher is a good balance between speed and quality). Setting preserve scale to "yes" will result in a printed map of the same size as seen on screen.



Drawing Tools

  1. The Drawing Tools allow you to markup the map by adding your own sketches and text with the following tools:

    Name Icon Description
    Draw Polygon Draw Polygon Draw Polygon: After selecting this tool, click on the map where you would like your first corner on the polygon to appear. Move the mouse to draw your shape, clicking each time you want a vertex created. Double-click to finish the drawing.
    Draw Line Draw Line Draw Line: After selecting this tool, click on the map where you would like to start your line. Move the mouse to draw your line, clicking each time you want a vertex created. Double-click to finish the drawing
    Draw Point Draw Point Draw Point: After selecting this tool, click on the map where you would like to place a point.
    Remove Drawing Remove Drawing Remove Drawing: This tool is used to remove individual items. Select this tool and click on the drawn object you would like to remove.
    Edit Drawing Edit Drawing Remove Drawing: This tool allows you to edit the shape of polygons and lines, as well as move point sketches. After selecting this tool, click on the object you would like to edit. Blue circles will appear on the drawing indicating locations you may use your mouse to move the location of a vertex or add a new one. Once you are finished with your editing, click off the drawing object to complete the task.
    Edit Attributes Edit Attributes Edit Attributes: This tool allows you to add a label to a drawn object or change it's colors. After selecting this tool, click on the object you would like to edit. A popup window with options will appear.
    Clear Drawings Clear Drawings Clear Drawings: This will erase all drawings on the map.
