Demonstration Project

This is a DEMONSTRATION application initiated by Klamath County, Oregon, with the express purpose of applying and evaluating new and emerging technologies in an effort to share information pertaining to water supply, natural resource and social and economic issues associated with water and resources management in the Klamath Basin. The vision is a common base of information to guide discussion, debate and resolution of the complex economic, social, and resource management issues within the Basin. The development of this demonstration application is guided by a formal document which identifies various future tools and applications. Those interested in participating may contact the Klamath County Public Works Department (lhickey @ co.klamath.or.us).

Grant Overview

Dr. Nancy Bellers-Simms, Program Manager for the Sectoral Applications Research Program (SARP) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Program Office in Silver Springs, Maryland formally notified participants of NOAA Award Number NA12OAR4310096 on August 23, 2012. The research conducted under this grant is being lead by Dr. Mark Deutschman with Houston Engineering, Inc. (of Minneapolis, Minnesota), Mr. Robert Hartman (Hydrologist in Charge) and Alan Haynes at the NOAA/NWS California-Nevada River Forecast Center (CNRFC) and Dr. David Garen a hydrologist with the NRCS National Water and Climate Center in Portland, Oregon.


The title of the grant application From Fisheries Manager to Family Farmer: Improved Products for Communicating Water Supply, Drought and Climate Change Risk for Daily Decision Making within the Klamath Basin, California and Oregon, reflects a focus on identifying climate, water and water supply information needs for a diverse basin stakeholder community. The project includes participants from the range of data users information within the Klamath Basin.
